Can I take Malaria Tablets and Alcohol?

Drinking moderate amounts of alcohol is unlikely to affect anti-malarial medication. But if you drink excessively, you may affect how the medication or the alcohol is metabolised by the body. This means that you may reduce the effectiveness of the medication, or you may become drunk more quickly.

You should also be aware that drinking alcohol can affect your judgement and you may be more likely to use a mosquito net or repellent incorrectly or to forget to take your medication or use preventative measures all together.

Always read the patient information leaflet for up to date guidance and consult your doctor if you have any further questions relating to your medication.
