Simvastatin Side Effects

Statins are a family of drugs that help to control cholesterol levels, causing the good cholesterol to increase and the bad cholesterol to decrease. Simvastatin is part of that family of drugs, and its effects help to prevent heart disease, diabetes and other health problems. It can also be used to reduce the risk of heart disease following a heart attack.

Minor Side Effects

With some of the Simvastatin side effects, medical attention may not be necessary. The ones we are going to cover right here are quite minor and may go away on their own after a short period of time. You should still let your doctor know about any side effects that you are experiencing, no matter how minor they may be. If your minor side effects persist or become severe, then you should seek medical attention.

Minor side effects include:

  • heartburn
  • flatulence
  • indigestion
  • skin rashes
  • tenderness around the eyes and the cheekbones
  • a lack of strength
  • light-headedness
  • a feeling of constant movement

Even if your side effects are not bothering you too much and you don’t need to medicate to ease them, if you feel concerned about them at all, talk to your doctor. It’s possible that your doctor can find a drug that yields fewer side effects or less severe ones.

Major Side Effects

Some side effects require immediate medical attention. Even if they do not feel severe to you, the following side effects can indicate a serious reaction to the drug and the onset of severe problems. If you notice any of these side effects manifesting, you need to get help right away.

The most common major side effects that you may notice with Simvastatin are:

  • an irregular heartbeat
  • dizziness
  • fainting

You may recognise these side effects as very similar to some of the ones above. There is a distinction between them though, and it is an important one. If you are not sure which side effect you are experiencing, such as dizziness or a feeling of constant movement, then it is best to do the safe thing and assume you are experiencing severe side effects. Get help from a medical professional right away.

There are other major side effects that are possible with this drug. These are less common but no less dangerous to you.

These include:

  • bladder pain
  • blurred vision
  • coughing
  • discoloured urine
  • flushed skin
  • fever
  • increased hunger or thirst
  • pain in your side or back
  • nausea
  • swelling
  • sweating

These are just a portion of the potential side effects, because changing the cholesterol levels in your body can affect all parts of your body. If you notice any side effects that are not listed here, you should treat them as severe and let your doctor know about them right away. If your doctor is not available, then you should get emergency medical help right away.

Keep in mind that using too much of the drug or mixing it with other drugs or alcohol can result in complications and severe side effects. Be sure to let your doctor know about any medications you are taking as well as any medical conditions from which you suffer, in order for them to ensure that Simvastatin is the right medicine for you.

Bladder Infection Home Remedies

While many people who are suffering from cystitis turn to their doctor for a medical treatment, many others prefer to try an alternative bladder infection treatment. However, to best prevent the spread of cystitis, and further complications such as kidney infections, we recommend seeking confirmed medical treatments such as ... Read more
