What is the Correct Lisinopril Dosage?

Your doctor may recommend that you take the drug Lisinopril if you have congestive heart failure, if you suffer from hypertension or you are recovering from a cardiac arrest. By helping your blood vessels to relax, this enzyme can improve blood flow and help your heart heal from these health problems.

However, it will only work the way it should if you are taking the correct dosage. Because there is a potential risk for serious side effects, this is not a drug you want to self-medicate with. Instead, you should only take under the direction of a doctor or pharmacist, and you should follow their instructions precisely. If you fail to do so, you increase your risk for suffering from certain side effects.

The average starting dose for Lisinopril is 10mg, but the doctor may start you a little higher or lower depending on your condition and your needs. Someone with serious hypertension may be prescribed a higher dose, such as 15mg per day. However, someone who is in poor health may be required to start out on a lower dosage, just to be safe.

In cases of patients who have had renal heart failure, a dose of 2.5mg is not uncommon to start out with. Your doctor will monitor you to determine how much you need to be taking and if any adjustments need to be made. It’s possible that the initial dosage won’t be enough or will be too much. In that cause your doctor will change up your dosage. Make sure you go to all of your doctor appointments while taking this medication to ensure you are getting the proper dosage.

Taking too much of Lisinopril can exacerbate some of the side effects. It can also put you at greater risk for more severe side effects. So, instead of experiencing just the common, mild ones, like nausea and headaches, you may start to suffer from rapid weight gain or urination problems. Once you start to experience any severe side effects, you need to let your doctor know right away. These can include those mentioned already as severe side effects as well as flu-like symptoms, feeling faint, chest pain, psoriasis or high potassium symptoms.

If you take too little of this drug, then it may not be very effective for you since it may not be a high enough dosage to offer you any noticeable benefit. Just make sure to talk to your doctor or pharmacist and get a recommendation as to how much you should be taking. If you start to feel changes in the way it affects you, then contact a medical expert for further advice.
