|N/A||1 test kit||£29.99|
The test kit tests for both gonorrhoea and chlamydia of the anus; two common sexually transmitted infections which can affect the genitals, anus and mouth. It’s suitable for anyone who has had unprotected anal sex.
Anyone who has engaged in anal sex without using a condom should take this test. Gonorrhoea and chlamydia are passed on during sexual contact with genital fluids which includes vaginal, oral and anal sex.
The test kit will provide rectal swabs to collect samples to test for both infections. With clean hands, take the swab out of the sealed packet. Insert it 3-4cm into the anus and slowly twist the swab around 3 times before removing it again. Carefully place it into the tube provided and seal it, placing it into the ziplock bag provided. You’ll need to do this once for each swab. Then place your samples in the return packaging to send your swabs to our laboratory and wait for the results.
The test works by testing the samples provided to determine whether or not they are carrying either a chlamydia or gonorrhoea infection. Many people don’t realise that they have these sexually transmitted infections as they often don’t produce symptoms. Chlamydia and gonorrhoea is usually tested using a vaginal swab for women and a urine test for men but these tests only determine whether or not these specific areas carry the infection. Anal chlamydia and gonorrhoea therefore often goes undetected so it’s important to get a specific test if you are at risk of these infections.
You will receive your results via email and SMS if you provide a valid UK mobile number.
If you have tested positively for either anal gonorrhoea or chlamydia then you will be prescribed an antibiotic to clear up the infection. It’s usually taken in one go or can be spread out over the course of a week, depending on the type. You will also need to inform your current or most recent partners so that they can get tested and treated too.
The test kit is very reliable provided you follow the instructions carefully. If your test kit arrives and the packaging has been damaged or if your swab samples become compromised in some way, then you should inform us to get a fresh testing kit sent out to you. Before you do the test, always read the instructions carefully.
Always using a condom during anal intercourse will protect you from catching anal gonorrhoea and chlamydia. If you have a monogamous partner, then you should ensure that both of you get tested for STIs and STDs before you stop using condoms.
Pain, bleeding or discharge from the rectum are symptoms of anal chlamydia. However, the infection is often symptomless and many people don’t know they have it until they get tested.
You may not experience any symptoms but if you do then pain in the rectum, a discharge or irritation can be a sign of anal gonorrhoea. The only way to find out for sure is to get tested.
Yes, the test is confidential. Both the test kit and your results will be delivered discreetly using plain, unmarked packaging so no-one will know what it contains. The results won’t be shared with your GP unless you ask us to do this.
This test is designed for anyone who has had unprotected anal sex. This includes women and men who have sex with men or women.
The antibiotics used to treat other forms of gonorrhoea and chlamydia are the same but this test is designed for anal use only. We have tests available for both men and women to detect chlamydia and gonorrhoea in the genitals and an oral swab testing kit for detecting an oral infection.
You can catch anal gonorrhoea or chlamydia by having unprotected anal sex with a partner who is infected. These STIs can go undetected for a long time which can result in passing them on to a partner unintentionally.
Nobody will be able to know what’s inside the package unless you tell them. Dr Felix test kits and treatments always come in discreet packaging which is unmarked and confidential.
The test kit for anal gonorrhoea and chlamydia is the same for both men and women. The tests differ for taking samples of the genital area only.
