Neoclarityn is an antihistamine which is used to treat hay fever and allergies to dust mites and pet hair. It relieves the symptoms associated with these allergic conditions and prevents them from occurring.
Neoclarityn blocks the histamine receptors, preventing an allergic response from taking place. Histamine is a chemical released by the body when you come into contact with an allergen, such as pollen and triggers symptoms such as inflammation, runny nose, itchy eyes and sneezing. By blocking the production of histamine, this stops these symptoms from flaring up.
Neoclarityn will usually start to work within one or two hours of taking it.
It's not always possible to prevent hay fever but you can take the following steps to reduce your exposure to pollen:
Stay indoors where possible when the pollen count is high
Take antihistamines as a preventative measure
Keep windows closed
Avoid keeping fresh flowers in the house
Wear wraparound sunglasses to prevent pollen from irritating your eyes
Avoid walking over freshly cut grass
Wash and change your clothes after being outdoors
Regularly vacuum and dust
Rub a small amount of Vaseline along the insides of your nostrils to deter pollen from irritating your nose
Pollen season occurs during the months of May- September. This is when pollen is released into the air and likely to cause hay fever symptoms.
Hay fever is caused by an allergic reaction to pollen. Pollen is a fine powdery substance released into the air by plants, making it easy for the particles to come into contact with the nose, eyes and mouth. If you have hay fever, your body releases a chemical called histamine because it interprets pollen as a threat. This sets off a chain reaction of allergy symptoms such as a runny nose, sneezing, itchy eyes and a blocked nose. Hay fever is more likely to occur in people with:
Other allergic conditions
A family history of hay fever and allergies
Continued exposure to tobacco smoke from a young age
Hay fever is a very common allergy and it affects roughly 10 million people living in the UK. It usually begins during childhood or adolescence and gets less severe as you get older. However, it can affect anyone at any age. People with asthma or other allergies are more likely to be affected by hay fever.
