Do Saxenda pens come with needles?

Saxenda pens do not come with needles. These need to be purchased separately. If you buy Saxenda through Dr Felix, you can add needles and a sharps box to your order. You can also purchase Saxenda needles separately through Dr Felix. 

How to use Saxenda needles

Always change the needle before each use. Never reuse a needle. Do not attach a needle until you are ready to take your next dose of Saxenda. Remove the needle immediately after your injection. Always dispose of needles safely.

Saxenda needles are made up of four parts. The top part is the outer needle cap. Beneath this is an inner needle cap and inside that is the needle. There will be a paper tab on the bottom of the needle to keep it clean before use. 

To use a Saxenda needle, tear off the paper tab and push the needle onto the pen. Turn the needle until it is tight. Then remove the outer needle cap and put it somewhere safe. You will need to use this later to safely remove the needle from the pen. Then remove the inner needle cap and throw it away. Do not try to replace the inner needle cap on the needle. 

After your injection, place the outer needle cap on a flat surface and slide the needle into the needle cap without touching the needle or the cap. Once the needle is covered, push the cap onto the needle. Once the cap is on securely, unscrew the needle and dispose of it in a sharps box.

How to dispose of Saxenda needles

To prevent harm to others, Saxenda needles must be safely disposed of in a sharps bin. A sharps bin is a hard plastic box that will safely contain the needles and enable safe disposal. 

You can add a sharps bin to your order when you buy Saxenda through Dr Felix. Alternatively, you may be able to get a sharps bin from your GP or a local chemist. 

When your sharps bin is full, you may be able to return it to a GP practice or chemist. In some areas, you may be able to arrange for collection from your local council. Do not put a sharps bin in your normal household waste or recycling.
